Memorial Day services will held throughout the county on Monday, remembering veterans who have served their nation. Following is a list of programs submitted to the Sentinel-Tribune:
Bowling Green
Bowling Green's Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m.
The parade will begin at the parking lot at the Federal Building, 208 S. Main St. It will go north on Main Street with stops at Ben Franklin and the Cla-Zel Theatre, where the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and 3rd Arkansas Civil War re-enactment group will fire a volley.
The parade will then continue on to the Wood County Courthouse for a service at the War Memorial area with a salute by the National Guard Co. B. 1st Battalion 148th Infantry Firing Squad. Next, the parade will continue east on Court Street to Thurstin Avenue and then turn north to Ridge Street, east on Ridge to Oak Grove Cemetery for the Service at the Mound.
The parade will feature veterans, patriotic organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other individuals.
Music will be provided by the Bowling Green High School band and bagpiper Nancy Lee. The soloist will be Helen Sillaman.
Pastor John Randall will give the invocation and the benediction. Wood County Commissioner Alvin Perkins will read General Logan's Orders, N. Keith Bradley will read the Gettysburg Address, Mayor John Quinn will read "A Memorial Day Poem." Lt. Col. Wes Hoffman, U.S. Air Force retired, will give the Memorial Day Address. National Guard Company C, 1st Battalion 148th Infantry will provide the firing squad salute.
In case of rain, the program will be held in the Veterans Building of City Park at 11 a.m.
Memory Garden will host a Memorial Day Service at 12:30 p.m. The address will be given by Hoffman.
Both events are sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Observance Committee.
Bloom Township
Bloom Township Memorial Association will hold its Memorial Day service Monday at Weaver Cemetery at 1 p.m.; and Bloom Chapel at 2 p.m. Both are located on Eagleville Road.
Children will place a flower on the grave of each veteran as their name is announced.
After the graves are decorated, there will be a concluding service at Bloom Chapel, including the plays of "Taps."
Bradner
Parade participants will gather starting at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of American Legion Post 338. The parade leaves for Bradner Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Jeff Ridenour will be the speaker.
A flyover by the 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio National Guard is scheduled.
A potluck follows in the post.
Custar
American Legion Post 305 will sponsor a parade Monday starting at 1 p.m.
The service at Milton Cemetery will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The speaker will be retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Dan Hoile.
An open house and potluck will follow at the post.
Dowling
The service Monday at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery begins at 9 a.m. with colors presented by the Luckey American Legion.
Rev. Dale Smeltzer will be the speaker.
The cemetery is located at the intersection of Carter and Dowling roads.
Attendees should bring their own chairs.
Fort Meigs
PERRYSBURG - The Fort Meigs Memorial Day commemoration ceremony begins at 2 p.m.
A wreath-laying ceremony is at 2 p.m. honoring those who served in the military. The public is encouraged to participate.
Grand Rapids
American Legion Post 232 and VFW Post 4984 will hold a service at Beaver Creek Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 9:45.
The parade organizes on Second Street at 10 a.m. and moves out at 10:15. The program at Howard Park, next to the fire department, starts at 10:30.
A service will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. and a wreath program will be held at the AL post at 11:45.
A potluck follows at noon at the post.
In the event of rain, all events will be held at the AL Post at 10:30 a.m.
A Sunday service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church at 9 a.m.
Haskins/Union Hill
The service at Union Hill Cemetery will begin with the parade formation at 8:45 a.m. The flag raising and decorating of the mound will be handled by Boy Scout Troop 350. Pastor Chad Huebner, of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Haskins, will lead a prayer.
The address will be given by Capt. Eric Norton, of the Air Force ROTC at Bowling Green State University. The benediction will be given by Huebner, followed by the firing squad from Lybarger-Grimm American Legion Post 441. The graves will be decorated by the Boy Scouts.
In case of rain, the service will be held in the Lusher Park shelter house in Haskins.
Jerry City
The Memorial Day program will begin at 10:45 a.m. in Jerry City Cemetery.
The Elmwood High School band will play.
In the event of rain the program will be held in the town hall.
Lake Township
WALBRIDGE - A 9:30 a.m. parade stepping off at fire station 1 will start the Lake Township service. It will end at the cemetery for a program that should start at 10 a.m.
A flyover by Jerry Deaton and Bill Hirzel will open the program. The keynote speaker is Capt. Charles Buchanan of the Ohio Air National Guard. The Lake High School band, under the direction of Rick Brimmer, will perform.
James Dolan, commander of VFW Post 9963 will lead the color guard presentation and the Pledge of Allegiance.
The bugler for the ceremony is Emily Philo.
The program concludes with a balloon release by the auxiliary of post 9963.
North Baltimore
The Memorial Day parade leaves the fire hall at 9 a.m.
Veterans who want to ride the trolley should be at the American Legion post at 8 a.m.
A potluck will follow at the post. The post will provide some food, but those attending are asked to be bring a dish to share.
Pemberville
At 9:30 a.m. a parade will begin at the village hall and end at the hall of Pemberville American Legion Post 183.
Following the parade, services will begin at 10 a.m. at the legion hall.
Perrysburg
Perrysburg American Legion Post 28 will hold a parade and service Monday starting at 10 a.m.
The parade will assemble at Louisiana Avenue and Fifth Street. It will travel Louisiana to Front Street and then west to Ohio 25 and on to Fort Meigs/Union Cemetery.
The parade will pause at Hood Park to place a wreath at the monument to those killed in service.
Those in the parade are asked not to throw candy into the crowd.
Perrysburg resident Clinton A. Mauk, a local historian and World War II Navy veteran, will be the speaker.
Rev. Paul Rea, pastor of Bethel Assembly of God and a Vietnam Army veteran, will give the invocation and benediction.
2009 delegates to the American Legion Buckeye Boys State and Girls State programs will assist with the program.
Portage
No Memorial Day program is planned this year at Portage Cemetery.
Rossford
The Memorial Day parade will be held in Rossford Sunday at 1:30 p.m. It begins at the corner of Superior and Elm streets, moving west on Superior to Eagle Point Road, then Hannum Avenue to Veterans Memorial Park, where a ceremony will be held. In case of inclement weather the parade will be canceled, and the ceremony will take place at the high school.
Troy Township/Luckey
The Troy Township/Luckey Memorial Day program will begin at 1:45 p.m. in Troy Township Cemetery with a concert by the Eastwood High School band.
The program begins at 2 p.m. with American Legion Post 240 Commander Joel Davis as master of ceremonies.
Rev. Donald Brewer will provide the invocation and benediction.
Kathy Meyer will be the soloist.
Shirley Davis, president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 240, and Emily Bockbrader, a junior auxiliary member, will provide readings.
Dale Bruning, a World War II veteran and history teacher, will be the speaker.
The program will conclude with a memorial to the dead, a firing salute and "Taps" played by Shawn Chalfin.
Wayne
The Wayne Memorial Day service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Graham Cemetery on Graham Road.
Weston
The annual Weston Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday. Line up will begin at 1 p.m. at the corner of Locust and Main streets.
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will proceed down Main and Center streets to the Weston Cemetery for a program hosted by Weston American Legion Post 409 at 2 p.m.
The golf cart and bike decorating contest judging will be at 12:30 p.m.
The Otsego High School Marching Band will be participating in the parade.
Guest speaker will be Michael Johnson, past District 1 commander.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at Weston Elementary at 2 p.m.
