On Wednesday, Bowling Green baseball completed their two-game sweep of visiting Fremont Ross, 8-1, and evened its league mark after eight games played.

The Bobcats jumped on the board early and often, staking a 7-0 lead after two innings of play. BG scored five times in the first, putting its first seven batters on base.

Winger led off the game with a single to left. Dean followed with a bunt single to the pitcher down the third base line. Brown then walked to load the bases. Neifer cleared the bags with a stand up double to deep right field.

Loomis scored Neifer with a single to right. BG scored its final run of the frame (unearned) on a passed ball, scoring Loomis.

In the second, the Bobcats scored two more unearned runs without the aid of a hit, but were assisted by walks to Winger and Brown, a PB, wild pitch, and a throwing error to the plate on a fielder’s choice.

Meanwhile, starting left-hander Brose was making quick work of the Little Giants, allowing just two hits (both in the 4th) over his six innings pitched. Brose struck out four, walked one and also hit a batter while throwing just 69 pitches (45 for strikes). With the win, he improved to 3-2 and lowered his earned-run average to 3.09.

Ross spoiled BG’s shutout bid in the seventh off reliever senior Drake Joseph, pushing across its lone tally off the benefit of a bases-loaded wild pitch with two outs.

Winger paced BG with two hits, including a double down the right field line to lead off the sixth. He scored on Brown’s one-out single to center for BG’s final run. Brown leads the team with a .452 average. His 15 RBIs are second to Neifer’s 18.
