Habitat for Humanity of Wood County, Inc. has announced plans to build homes in Bradner, Rossford, Walbridge, and Wayne. Persons interested in applying for Habitat’s Homeownership Program are encouraged to apply on the Habitat for Humanity website: https://wchabitat.org.
“Many people do not realize that they are eligible for a Habitat for Humanity home,” said Mark Ohashi, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of Wood County, Inc. “Our criteria make homeownership a real possibility for many people.
“We want people to know that they can replace their rent payments with an affordable mortgage and own their own home through Habitat’s Homeownership Program,” he said. “We believe that everyone should have a safe, affordable place to call home.”
For example, a family of four that makes between $23,000 and $62,000 annually may qualify, he said.
As part of the Homeownership Program, approved applicants agree to provide 200 “sweat equity” hours (volunteer time). Their sweat equity includes attending mandatory monthly homeownership education workshops, completing “Financial Peace University” workshops, and volunteering time on their home and those of other Habitat families.
“We want people to know that through Habitat, they have an affordable housing solution,” Ohashi said. “They just need to reach out, call us, and ask us about it. We will guide them through the process. In return for this effort, they can purchase an affordable Habitat home that gives them a sense of self-reliance and a much better future.”
On average, each Habitat home includes over 2,000 hours of volunteer support. Habitat for Humanity of Wood County is one of 44 Habitat affiliates in Ohio.
