Perrysburg clinches share of NLL title

HOLLAND — Perrysburg led 14-3 at halftime but scored 35 second half points to blow the game wide open in a 49-14 Northern Lakes League victory at Springfield Friday.

Perrysburg, 8-1 overall, is undefeated in NLL play at 6-0 and has earned at least a share of the conference championship. A win over Maumee next Friday, and the Yellow Jackets will be outright champions.

Springfield falls to 2-7 and 2-4.

The Yellow Jackets accumulated 501 yards of total offense and held the Blue Devils to 185, and Perrysburg had a 24-8 advantage in first downs.

In the first half, University of Toledo-bound senior running back Connor Walendzak scored on a 19-yard run and senior quarterback T.J. Takats threw a nine-yard TD pass to Jack Borer.

Springfield got on the board with a 19-yard field goal by Hunter Keivens with 22 seconds remaining in the half.

Just 49 seconds after the second half kickoff, Taylen Miller scored on a 48-yard run for Springfield, closing the gap to 14-10. The Jackets then scored 35 points unanswered on five TDs.

Walendzak scored on a nine-yard run, Nick Oros scored on a 47-yard run, and TJ Takats threw a 45-yard TD pass to Borer and a 20-yard TD pass to Gavin Fenneken.

Josh Takats threw a 12-yard TD pass to Mario Gutierrez for Perrysburg’s final TD.

Walendzak ran for 159 yards on 18 carries, Oros ran for 72 yards on three carries, T.J. Takats ran for 24 yards on four carries, and Joseph Seney had one carry good for 21 yards.

T.J. Takats completed 13-of-18 passes for 197 yards and Josh Takats completed 2-of-3 passes for 27 yards.

Borer caught five passes for 106 yards, Fennken caught three passes for 52 yards, Gutierrez had two catches for 27 yards, Andrew Hunt caught three passes for 22 yards, and Landon Graham had two catches for 17 yards.

For Springfield, Miller completed 5-of-8 passes for 44 yards, Kasen Knapp completed 2-of-4 passes for seven yards and Kaiden Taylor had one completion in six attempts for three yards.

Miller ran for 83 yards on 16 carries, KaRon Logan ran for 20 yards on three carries, Taylor ran for 17 yards on three carries, and Knapp ran for eight yards on three carries.

Eddie Merrill caught three passes for 34 yards, Kamren Tall had two catches for 10 yards, and Zavlon Penrice caught two passes for 13 yards.
