Perrysburg establishes advisory committee for Downtown Revitalization Project

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg City Council has approved establishing an advisory committee for its Downtown Revitalization Project at their Tuesday, March 5 meeting.

The following individuals have been appointed as voting members of the committee: Tony Bilancini, business owner – restaurant; Kim Dane, citizen; Angel Elden, business owner; Judy Hagen, citizen; Trish Jambor, business owner – restaurant/coffee; Judy Lang, Country Garden Club; Meig McIntyre, business owner; John Meier, Historic Landmarks Commission; Craig Pickerel, business owner; and Becky Williams, planning commission/citizen.

This project is a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the infrastructure while also enhancing the appeal and vibrancy of the downtown area. According to the city’s press release, the project will bring various improvements including:

• Infrastructure enhancements: Upgrades to roads, sidewalks, and lighting to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, making it easier and accessible for customers to visit local businesses.

• Public spaces: The creation of attractive public spaces that encourage community gatherings and events such as the farmers market, homecoming festival, and Winterfest.

• Aesthetic improvements: Beautification efforts, such as landscaping and public art installations, to enhance the area’s visual appeal and music amenities to create a more welcoming ambiance.

Also at the March 5 meeting, council:

• Approved the purchase of eight new sets of turnout gear for the fire department from Atlantic Emergency Solutions for a cost of $33,975.

• Approved a $42,900.00 contract with Atlas Cleaning Services to provide regular cleaning services for the Perrysburg Police Division Building.

• Voted to allow St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 871 E. Boundary to convert their rectory residence into an accessory structure for the church’s clothing donation and re-purpose program. This will include parking lot and site modifications at the property, which is zoned Institutional. A public hearing on the issue was held before city council in January 16 and the issue was discussed at the February meeting of council’s Planning & Zoning Committee, which unanimously recommended approval.

• Approved the sale of unused property, includinga 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty vehicle and a 2005 International 4300-DT 466 vehicle.

• Gave approval to the Department of Public Service to purchase of a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD mechanics truck for $61,822.50 from Perrysburg Automall, which provided the lowest quote for this vehicle

• Approved was the purchase of a 2023 Ford Transit-250 cargo van for the Department of Public Service from Baumann Ford Oregon for $48,470.00.

• Gave permission to the Department of Public Service to enter into a $58,520 contract with Clarke Mosquito Control Products for mosquito insecticide for the 2024 spray season.

• Approved a two-year, $30,690.00 contract with Ace Diversified Services to provide for the rental and servicing of Porta-Jons throughout the city and for special events.

The council then went into executive session to discuss personnel issues and when they returned to regular session they announced the approval of three contracts with the Ohio Patrolmens’ Benevolent Association, one for the sergeants unit, another for the patrol officers, and the third for the communication officers, animal control officers, and records clerk’s unit.
