Eagles stay unbeaten with wins over McComb, Evergreen

McCOMB — Eastwood pitcher Andrew Badenhop struck out 10, walked one and allowed five hits in pitching seven innings of scoreless baseball during a 6-0 non-league win over McComb Saturday.

Badenhop threw just 84 pitches in the complete game victory, including 60 for strikes and facing 27 batters in helping the Eagles improve to 6-0.

The Eagles were actually outhit, getting just four hits, but took advantage of five McComb errors to score two runs in the first, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth.

Case Boos, Tristan Schuerman, Badenhop and Colton Woodward had base hits for the Eagles, but Boos also had two stolen bases and scored twice.

The Eagles had a total of six stolen bases as Jackson Bauer also had two steals and Kadyn Donnell and Schuerman had one each.

On Thursday in Metamora, Eastwood pitcher Ethan Rapp struck out 10, walked none, and allowed four hits and no runs through six innings as the Eagles defeated Evergreen, 7-0.

Bauer closed in the seventh, striking out one and allowing one hit. Again, the Eagles were outhit 5-3, but took advantage of three Evergreen errors, 10 walks, and stole seven bases, including three by Boos.

Donnell had two base hits in three at-bats, and Badenhop had Eastwood’s only extra base hit, a double, and Woodward had a sacrifice fly.

But Schuerman got on base three times by walking, and he had one stolen base. Bauer, Badenhop and Donnell had one stolen base each.

The Eagles scored once in the first, added three in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh inning.

For Evergreen, Colton Robertson had two base hits, and Cory Kanneman, Isaac Overfield, and Conner Hewson had one base hit apiece.

Robertson had two stolen bases, Kanneman had one SB, and Hewson reached once after getting hit by a pitch.

On the mound, Layne Vance struck three, walked six, allowed two hits and three earned runs in three innings for the Vikings.

Nick Kruzel struck out one, walked one, and allowed one hit and no earned runs in three innings, and Hewson closed in the seventh, walking three but striking out no one while allowing no hits and one earned run.
