Bedford wins two as Flyers sweep Rangers

MILLBURY Lake softball swept a doubleheader from Northwood Saturday, winning 11-3 and 9-5. Lake pitcher Kali Bedford got both wins in the circle.

In the opener, Bedford struck out 10, walked one, allowed eight hits and one earned run through seven innings, throwing 97 pitches, including 72 for strikes in getting the complete-game victory.

At the plate, Alivia King and Sarah Patrick had triples for the Flyers, Bedford hit two doubles, and Ellie Rymers and Diem Isbell had one double each.

Jessie Materni and Bedford were both 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Patrick was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Isbell was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kylee Pietrzak, Addison Boehm, and Sophia Gruetter had base hits, Boehm had two RBIs, and Isbell and Madyson Buschmann had stolen bases for Lake.

Northwood held a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Lake scored two in the third, five in the fourth, and added three more runs in the sixth, outhitting Northwood, 15-8.

In the second game, Bedford struck out seven, walked one, allowed 11 hits and two earned runs through seven innings, this time throwing 104 pitches, including 79 strikes.

Northwood scored four in the top of the first as Lake had to come from behind for the second straight game against the Rangers. Each team had 11 hits, Northwood had four errors to Lake’s one.

Lake added one run in the first, but Northwood matched that to take a 5-1 lead after two innings. Lake scored two in the third, five in the fifth, and added one run in the sixth.

Patrick was 3-for-3 with two triples, a double, and an RBI, Materni was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Bedford, King, Pietrzak, Boehm, Gruetter, and Rymers had base hits. Isbell had the Flyers’ only stolen base.
