Perrysburg, Eastwood swimmers produce multiple sectional champions

FREMONT — Perrysburg junior Ewan Fisher won a sectional championship in the Division I 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:47.91 to defeat second place Toledo St. Francis sophomore Maximus Buff (1:49.35) at Fremont Ross High School last Saturday.

Fisher also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:57.55 to beat second place St. Francis freshman Ben Quisno (5:03.03) by over five seconds.

Eastwood senior Ian Sander won a D-II championship at Fremont in the 200 intermediate medley, finishing in 2:04.18 while Eastwood sophomore Eric Sander finished second in 2:08.46.

Eastwood sophomore A.J. O’Brien won the 500 freestyle in 5:11.27, taking an 11-second-plus victory over Tiffin Columbian junior Trenton Staib (5:22.98).

Fisher, the Sander brothers, and O’Brien will advance to the district meet at Bowling Green State University’s Aquatics Center along with multiple other top placers.

The Bowling Green boys swim team produced five district individual qualifiers, some in more than one event, and two relay teams that advanced.

BG boys swimmers qualifying individually to the district meet are Aiden Hildebrand in the 200 freestyle, Aaron Mejiritski in the 200 intermediate medley and 100 breaststroke, Dillon O’Connell in the 500 freestyle, Colin Sargent in the 100 backstroke and Alex Xu in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

The BG boys swimmers also qualified in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The D-II district meet at BGSU is this Friday.

BG girls who qualified individually to the district meet are Ella Billiot in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, Maddy Desmond in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Maggie Layne in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, and Ela Ostrowski in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

The BG girls team also qualified in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. These swimmers will be competing at the District D-I championships this Saturday at BGSU.

Perrysburg senior Haley Gano won a Division I 200 IM championship, finishing in 2:13.88 to defeat second place Toledo St. Ursula senior Maggie Grespin (2:19.11).

In addition, Eastwood senior Emily O’Brien won a D-II sectional championship at Fremont in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 2:09.28 to defeat second place Toledo Maumee Valley freshman Addy Jaffe (2:22.47) by over 13 seconds.

Emily O’Brien also won the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:35.83 to defeat second place Ashland senior Sara Finks (5:34.7).

Eastwood senior Mary Musteric won a championship in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:22.53. Musteric also won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.08 to beat second place Jaffe (1:11.3).

Eastwood freshman Madi Hawn won the 50 freestyle, closing in 29.32 seconds to defeat second place Ashland senior Nykole Doerner (25.11). Hawn also won the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:04.89.
