Royals down Flyers, 35-7

MILLBURY — Lake and Elmwood were tied at 7-7 after Lake receiver Joe Clay caught a six-yard touchdown pass with 6:46 remaining in the first half.

Two minutes and 35 seconds later, Elmwood senior running back Mason Oliver scored on an 18-yard to put Elmwood up 14-7, but the Flyers were still down by just one touchdown entering halftime.

In the second half, Elmwood scored 21 unanswered points to pull away for a 35-7 victory over Lake at Lake Community Stadium Friday.

The Royals (7-1 overall, 4-1 NBC) stay one game back of league-leading Eastwood (8-0, 5-0) in the Northern Buckeye Conference standings. Lake falls to 1-7 and 1-4.

Oliver scored on a four-yard run, senior back Alex Arnold scored on a 57-yard reception from senior quarterback Hayden Wickard, and sophomore Andrew Traxler scored on a one-yard run for the Royals.

For the Royals, Wickard completed 10-of-19 passes for 242 yards with one interception, including two to Arnold for 90 yards and four to Micah Oliver for 70 yards.

Mason Mossbarger caught three passes for 60 yards and Brennan Hiser had one catch for 22 yards.

Mason Oliver ran for 113 yards on 13 carries, Traxler ran for 46 yards on nine carries, and Arnold ran for 35 yards on five carries.

Cannon Endicott led Elmwood’s defense with five tackles, three assists and one sack, Hiser had seven tackle and one assist, and Jesus Alvarez had two tackles and four assists.
