PEMBERVILLE – Two village police officers were recognized Tuesday night for their efforts last
month that helped saved the life of a citizen.On Aug. 3 Sgt. Jason Kwapich and officer Chris Timm
administered CPR to the resident until the Pemberville-Freedom EMS arrived to treat the man and transport
him to Wood County Hospital.During the village council meeting Mayor Gordon Bowman read a letter of
appreciation from the village, a copy of which will be placed in each of their personnel files. At the time
of the incident Kwapich was a part-time officer and Timm was a sergeant. Timm has since resigned that
position to become a full-time officer in Lake Township, and remains a part-time officer in Pemberville.
Kwapich was promoted to sergeant earlier this month.Council also:• Confirmed Halloween trick-or-treat will
be Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.• Approved $13,260 in paving work to be completed this fall. Council Member
Eric Campbell said the biggest project will be to expand the capacity of the village brush pit. Other
projects will involve patching of streets.• Indicated it has no problem with village employees clearing some
village right-of-way at Ohio 105 and Sycamore Street that will allow an owner access to his land near that
intersection. Apparently some residents have planted trees in the right-of-way that hinder an easement to
the land in question. Council Member Marge Cox indicated some residents are not happy about the planned
work. Council members indicated the village needs to do a better job of maintaining its right-of-way.• Heard
Council Member William Long report a water rate study is expected by the end of the month and drilling of a
new water well is expected in the next two weeks.• Learned Efficiency Smart will be giving customers of the
village electric system free CFL light bulbs Sept. 26 at Union Bank and Sept. 27 at the village office.
Hours both days are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.• Learned Pemberville Road north of the village will be closed
starting Monday for bridge replacement near Garling Road. The closure will last several weeks.• Heard
Council Member Eileen Schuerman report that items from the pool concession stand remain available at a
