WESTON – Following the third reading, members of Weston Village Council passed the so-called
"4-H ordinance" Monday night. The ordinance modifies rules governing livestock within village
limits to be limited to certain 4-H or FFA projects only. It passed unanimously.Council also heard from
Loren Cass and Bret Clark of Suburban Natural Gas. The men noted they were there to ask for assistance in
promoting safety from the citizens.Clark stressed the importance of calling 48 hours in advance of any
digging on the property to assure there are no natural gas lines in the area."That includes anything
… even something as simple as digging a hole for a mailbox," Clark said.He said homeowners think they
can dig anywhere they want because it is their property, however they may not be aware of all the gas lines
on that property."If you see, hear or smell something, don’t try to stop the escaping gas. Evacuate and
go upwind from the gas and call 9-1-1," he added. He noted that smelling gas is bad, but hearing it is
worse. In other news, council heard:• They are still waiting on the cemetery archway sign to be refinished so
that it can be put back in place.• Discussed the possibility of developing an ordinance restricting smoking
to only the parking areas of village property including the ball fields and parks.• Informed of the approval
of a new vehicle for the Weston EMS, with the old one to be placed on auction.
