Bowling Green Schools has hired a new elementary principal.More than 50 applications were received
for principal at Kenwood Elementary, and the school board voted unanimously Thursday to hire Kathleen Daney
for the post.Daney will get paid $76,000 annually for her two-year contract, from Aug. 1 to July 31,
2015.She’ll replace Martha Fether, who announced her retirement earlier this month.Daney has been principal
at Toledo Public Schools’ Beverly Elementary since 2011.She has been with TPS since 1996, and has served as
acting principal at two elementaries as well as an assistant principal at a third.She earned her bachelor of
science in education from Bowling Green State University, and her masters of educational administration from
the University of Toledo.She’s worked as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts, Sherrod Brown
for Senate and Teresa Fedor for Ohio Representative and Senate, and all of TPS levies since 1996."I am
excited to be in a smaller district where everyone is involved in the process of education," said Daney
Friday morning.Her family just moved to a home near Side Cut Metropark in Maumee, and she plans to stay
there and commute.She said when she met with the interview team, she told them "they were a very
dynamic group of people. Their philosophy about education is so student centered. I just felt at home when I
met them."It’s difficult to leave the families of Beverly (Elementary), but I’m hoping to have the same
kind of collaborative effort with the families of Kenwood," she stated.The board hired several more
individuals at Thursday’s meeting, including:• Jeremy Sison, as assistant band director.About 80 people
applied for the job and the district weeded it down to 50.Bruce Corrigan, new director of band, did
extensive research on each before inviting in finalists."When they got before students, they either
rose to the top or crashed," said Superintendent Ann McVey, explaining that finalists were asked to
