OXFORD — Bowling Green couldn’t overcome a slow start Saturday night. The Falcons spotted
sixth-ranked Miami a 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game on the way to a 3-1 loss in a Central
Collegiate HockeyAssociation game.Miami took its 2-0 lead on goals from Jimmy Mullin at 5:20 and Bryon
Paulazzo on 10:20.The Falcons closed to within 2-1 on Dajon Mingo’s goal at 18:43, but Mullins’ second goal
of the game restored Miami’s two-goal lead six minutes into the second period.Miami finished with a 34-24
edge in shots. BG’s Andrew Hammond made 31 saves. The RedHawks completed a sweep of the series after they
posted a 2-1 win Friday.BG played poorly, and lacked intensity and emotion for the second straight game as
it fell to 8-13-5 overall and 5-10-3-1 in the CCHA.Miami is 15-6-5, 10-4-4-4 after playing well from start
to finish.“Not a good start for us,” BG coach Chris Bergeron said. “Full marks to Miami. They came out with
a purpose tonight and that purpose was to win. They took it to us from the beginning.”BG had a chance to cut
Miami’s 3-1 lead when the RedHawks’ Taylor Richart received a five-minute penalty for charging with 51
seconds left in the second period. But the Falcons didn’t score and the major power play ended when BG’s
Brent Tate was called for interference with 52 seconds left in the power play.“Our power play is
struggling,” Bergeron said. “I felt like the intensity was better. We had a little more (offensive) zone
time.Full credit to Miami. Did they block a lot of shots?”The Falcon power play was 0-of-2 in the game and
0-of-7 in the series. BG also failed to score on a five-minute power play Friday.BG had just four shots in
6:09 with the extra man Saturday.Thirty-seven of BG’s 61 total shot attempts in Saturday’s game didn’t make
it to the net. Miami blocked 21 shots and BG missed the net 16 times.Despite being out-played Saturday, the
Falcons had a chance to tie the game 2-2. But Miami’s Ryan McKay made a blocker save on Brett Mohler’s shot
off a 2-on-1 rush with the Falcons short-handed.The RedHawks then came down and scored a rebound goal on the
power play for a 3-1 lead after BG turned the puck over on a clearing attempt. BG had built some momentum
late in the first period, thanks to Mingo’s goal.“All of a sudden that little bit of momentum, which I
didn’t think was a whole lot, was gone,” Bergeron said.Miami’s power play was 1-of-4 in the game and 3-of-7
in the series.Ryan Carpenter assisted on Mingo’s goal, giving the sophomore center a point in 10 straight
games. It’s BG’s longest point streak since the 2005-06 season when Alex Foster had a point in 11 straight
games.Carpenter leads the Falcons with 21 points in 26 games on 10 goals and 11 assists. He has six goals
and six assists during his 10-game streak.MIAMI 3, BGSU 1GOALS BY PERIODBGSU 1 0 0 —1MIAMI 2 1 0 —3FIRST
