Fort Meigs’ Founders Day is Saturday

PERRYSBURG – On Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., War of 1812 soldiers and civilians will host a
small winter encampment to recreate what life was like as Fort Meigs was constructed. Activities will
take place inside and outside of the visitor center.Soldiers will demonstrate period construction
techniques such as hewing logs and building defensive works. Attendees may help dig a trench by using a
pick axe or shovel to try to break the hard frozen ground. Soldiers will also provide weapons
demonstrations throughout the day.Other demonstrations, offered within the visitor’s center, will
include how clothing was made in 1813, soldier dress-up at the kids’ clothing station, how to make rope,
the work of period carpenters, hand sewing and more.Admission for the event is $5 for adults, $4 for
seniors, and $3 for students, Ohio Historical Society members and children five and under are free.For
