Country acts highlight jamboree in Wayne
WAYNE – The Wayne Firefighter’s Country Jamboree will be held Saturday with gates
opening at 3 p.m. in downtown Wayne.
Scheduled to perform are: Longneck Strangler from Detroit at 4 p.m.; Gunner and The
Grizzly Boys from Grand Rapids, Mich., at 6 p.m.; Scott Thompson Band at 8 p.m.;
and Rodney "Hot Rod" Parker and Liberty Beach at 10 p.m.
Admission. 18 and older, is $10 at the gate. A pig roast will be served starting at 4
p.m. Cost $6.
At 4:30 p.m. the Cornhole Classic Tournament will begin. Registration and warm up
begins at 3 p.m. Registration is $25 per team which includes admission to the
jamboree.

fire department. All prcoeeds benefit Wayne Firefighters Memorial.
BG jazz singer vying for votes
Jazz singer Morgen Stiegler, of Bowling Green, has entered the Sarah Vaughan
International Jazz Vocal Competition that is seeking to find "the next
great female jazz singer."
Entrants post three songs, one of which must have been sung by Sarah Vaughn, online,
to be voted on by the online community.
A panel of five judges including Jon Hendricks, of Toledo, and Dee Dee Bridgewater,
will select five finalists from the 15 semifinalists identified by in the online
voting.
Those five will be flown to perform in the finals at the New Jersey Performing Arts
Center. The winner will receive $5,000 and a jazz to present a solo show at the
arts center.
Here version of "You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To" was ranked 17th as of
Wednesday afternoon.

Bliss on the river
GRAND RAPIDS – Bliss will perform the next program of the Rhythm on the River Arts
Series on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between
the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street behind LaRoe’s
Restaurant.
Bliss – Lorilee Ash Green, Cindy McFarland, M’Lissa Prottengeier, and Brenda
Holdridge – features vocal harmonies to the accompaniment of violin, acoustic
guitar, keyboard, and percussion.
Toledo Rep staging two-man show at Owens
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre’s Edgy Rep Production of "Ivan and Adolf: The Last
Man in Hell" will be staged Saturday at 8p.m. in the Owens Community
College Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, 30335 Oregon Road in Perrysburg
Township
A reception will be held at 7:30 prior to the performance.
Written by Stephen Vicchio and directed by Kate Abu-Absi, the show features two
characters; one drawn from literature, Ivan Karamozov, and the other from
history, Adolf Hitler. Both men wind up as the last two residents in hell and
struggle to find redemption and transfer papers to heaven.

Artistic trio exhibiting work
TOLEDO – The Gionis, Hudson & Spencer Exhibition IS on display in the
Parkwood Gallery, 1838 Parkwood Avenue, Suite 120, through Aug. 17 when a
closing reception will be held A closing reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit features Tina Gionis photographic juxtapositions of old and new images of
Toledo; Kendra Hudson’s mixed media pairing of man-made and natural objects; and
Elizabeth Spencer’s porcelain vessels.

Bluegrass on Hayes verandah
FREMONT – The Ottawa County Bluegrass Band will perform a Verandah Concert at the
Hayes Home Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
The band features two generations of bluegrass performers from Port Clinton. The band
was formed in the 1990s to promote traditional bluegrass including vocal
harmonies reminiscent of an earlier time when families provided their own
entertainment.
An old-fashioned ice cream social precedes the concert at 6:45 p.m.
