Rossford to pay Lake $10,185 a month for dispatch

ROSSFORD – City Council Monday approved a contract with Lake Township to continue
having the township provide dispatching services.
City Administrator Ed Ciecka said that the contract could be terminated at the end of
any month. Area municipalities continue to investigate the possibility of
creating a regional dispatching service.
The cost of the Lake dispatching is $10,185 a month, or $122,220 annually.
"We will continue to look at other options," Ciecka said.
Councilman Mike Scott said Lake had provided good service and is working with the
city into regional dispatching.
Council also voted unanimously to purchase a new sports utility vehicle for the
Police Department.
The purchase of the vehicle first came before council earlier this month, but
Councilman Chuck Duricek, an auto mechanic, questioned the durability of the
Chevy Tahoe that the city was purchasing for about $27,500.
Monday, Duricek said he talked to state police officials and they reported that the
repair records were the same as the Ford Crown Victoria, traditionally the
police vehicle of choice. He also said that the state police are finding that
they get 20,000 to 30,000 more miles out of the Tahoes than Crown Victorias. The
life of a cruiser is estimated at about 150,000 miles.
"They’re great vehicles," he said.
Also at the meeting, council voted to accept a $500 donation from Electro-Prime. The
cash award was given to the department, said Chief Glen Goss, in appreciation of
the department’s work on a theft of aluminum from the company’s Rossford
facility.
The aluminum was recovered in Michigan, and two suspects have been arrested.
Also, the department is receiving a Blue Ribbon Arson Award for its work on solving a
fire last year at 207 Osborn St.
Goss said the department’s name will be entered into a drawing. The prize is free
training for one officer.
