Cygnet joins Water & Sewer District

0

The Northwestern Water and Sewer District’s board has accepted an application from Cygnet to join the
district effective Sept. 1.
Cygnet has operated its own water and sewer system independently for many decades. However, with rising
costs and a shortage of licensed operators, the village has turned over its approximately 240 users to
the district for ownership and operations.
The first priority for the district has been to physically locate the infrastructure such as shut-off
valves, hydrant valves, meter pits and replace non-reading water meters.
This information has been added to the district’s 18 field laptops for field use, OUPS marking, and
electronic record-keeping.
Monthly billing will continue with new meter conversion during August. With the district’s first bill,
hourly usage will be available by the district’s staff to help answer questions and monitor usage.
The district has 53 employees who operate in maroon-colored vehicles with district identification.
Approximately 15,000 customers are served by the district from Northwood and Rossford to Hoytville and
Bairdstown. The district has operating revenues of approximately $9 million per year with capital
improvements varying from $3 million to $12 million per year.
Nine board members oversee operations for the district meeting on the first and third Thursdays of each
month.
