The Sentinel-Tribune SportsZone already is paying off for local teams.
The SportsZone is the Sentinel’s multimedia platform devoted to youth, recreation and leisure sports.
The website, www.stsportszone.com, provides local coaches with the opportunity to post information about
their teams, including results, rosters, statistics, game reports and photos which is available for
public reviewing.
The information is then forwarded to the Sentinel’s sports department for possible use in the newspaper
each Wednesday on a special SportsZone page.
To reward the leagues and organization that use the site, 20 cents from every dollar coming from local
STSZ website advertising will be shared with the participating organizations of STSZ under the community
share program.
Fourteen organizations received money through website for May and June, including the Bowling Green Swim
Club, which earned $438.24.
Four other groups received at least $15 – BG Junior Bobcat Baseball, $72.41; BG Blast Baseball, $64.84;
BG Soccer, $43.46; and the Northwest Ohio Amateur Baseball League, $26.19. A total of $660 was
distributed.
The Sentinel SportsZone is run by Community Sports Desk, which is operated by the Kenosha (Wis.) News.

The SportsZone debuted in the Sentinel in April.
BGSC head coach Carolyn Strunk said her group was still determining how it would use its share of the
money. She said it would be used for one of three purposes – for travel, for the Sooner or Later Gator
program, or to start a scholarship.
"The SportsZone is a great way to send out results to everyone immediately," Strunk said.
"Everyone involved with the program gets the results, and it’s also a great way for our alumni and
their families to stay in touch with us."
"This program is a wonderful way to give back to the community and to also give teams another venue
to celebrate publicly their achievements online and also get a better chance of having their information
published in the newspaper," said the Sentinel’s Karmen Concannon, who is overseeing the SportsZone
project.
"The money each group earns can be used to buy ice cream or hot dogs for everyone after a game or to
put towards travel expenses for a tournament that maybe they couldn’t afford otherwise. I look for this
program to grow in the future as more people understand how it works and the benefits it provides."

Teams and organizations receive points each time they submit results to STSZ. At the end of the month,
the points are tallied and each participating group will receive its share of the revenue which is
distributed on a quarterly basis.
Each participating share will receive some share. Groups that refer a local business that becomes a
sponsor, 10 percent of that advertiser’s monthly fee goes directly to the organization the group will
continue to earn points toward that advertiser’s remaining 10 percent of the community share monthly
pool.
Concannon said the way to earn the most money is to provide the Community Sports Desk with a schedule and
team roster at the start of the season.
By submitting that information, organizations will earn the most back.
In addition, if the team encourages grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends to sign up, the more points a
team can earn toward the community share portion at the end of each quarter.
Organizations interested in joining should contact STSZ Sports Marketing Manager Jeff Reget at
[email protected] or 1-888-853-7904, ext. 368.
