The local community, along with Modern Woodmen, recently helped raise more than $5,000 for the Cocoon
Shelter with some of the proceeds from the annual Pickle Chase 5K run.
The event, held on June 25, raised more than $8,000. This includes $2,500 matched by Modern Woodmen
through the organization’s Matching Fund program.
The event is held in honor of Jodie Stearns, a local attorney who was tragically killed while running.

This is the sixth year for the event and Modern Woodmen has provided $10,000 over the years to assist
with the events goals of providing local scholarships and donations to local charities.
The Matching Fund program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a
community cause, organization or individual in need by holding fundraisers. Modern Woodmen matches money
raised up to $2,500.
