John Schmidt, of Bowling Green; and David Banks, Brandi Jackson, Maria Mauricio, Tracy Nye, Pamela
Wiechman and Tabatha Yeary, all of Fostoria, have been inducted into the Alpha Mu Epsilon chapter of Phi
Theta Kappa, a national two-year college honor society. They all attend Terra Community College in
Fremont.
Jeremy Baker and Lily Schmidt, both of Bowling Green, along with Aaron Swartz, Perrysburg, made the
Wittenberg University dean’s list for fall semester after maintaining a 3.5 or better grade point
average.
Spring Arbor (Mich.) University has listed the Wood County students who earned degrees at fall
commencement. That list includes Karen Fischer, Perrysburg, and Rebecca Johnson, Bowling Green, both in
management and organizational development; Angelic Mercer, Bloomdale, social work, magna cum laude;
James Scheff, Perrysburg, master of arts in organizational management; Cindy Miller, of Luckey, master
of arts in organizational management; and Roxanne Burgess, Perrysburg, also a master of arts in family
studies.
Erin LeGalley, Bowling Green, has received the Geological Society of America’s (GSA) Coal Geology
Division Best Paper Award. A senior at Miami University, LeGalley is a geology major and environmental
science co-major. She presented her research, "Electron Microscopy Investigation of street sediment
reveals complexities of coal pollution in Hamilton, OH: cause for health concerns," during the
poster session at the recent annual meeting of the GSA. She also received a Kimberly L. Ingersoll
Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. LeGalley is a member of Miami’s Harry T. Wilks Leadership
Institute 2009-2011 Shaping Sustainable Communities program, a two-year minor that extends classroom
learning about community planning and environmental sustainability into surrounding Butler County.
Alyson Morris, of Bowling Green, won first place in the Feature Page Newspaper category and an honorable
mention in the Magazine Spread Category in the 12th annual Design Contest for College Students. Morris
is a senior at Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication, and is expected to graduate in June
with a bachelor of science degree in visual communication, with a retail merchandising and fashion
product development minor. She is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, the University Program Council, OU
Student Senate, Rho Lambda national sorority leadership recognition society, and Sigma Alpha Lambda
leadership and honors organization. She also is design editor for The Post on campus.
Ben Hammer, an Elmwood High School graduate, earned a 4.0 grade point average as well as a spot on the
University of Toledo’s dean’s list for fall semester. He’s a member of the Rocket’s baseball team.
Allison Augsburger, Bowling Green, was named to the fall dean’s list at Berry College, Rome, Ga. She is a
sophomore studying animal science and posted a gpa of 3.5 or better for the term.
Shelby Barnes, Bowling Green, made the fall semester dean’s list at Kent State University.
