A Bowling Green High School art student will be heading to the nation’s capital in June after her entry
was named to overall winner of the Congressional Art Show.
The show, open to students in the 5th Congressional District, was held April 16 at Owens Community
College. Congressman Bob Latta spoke with each artist asking them to explain their work and how they
created it. Four pieces were selected from the group.
Lily Murnen’s "Underground" lino cut was selected to represent the 5th District in Washington,
D.C., and will be displayed in the Capitol Building for the next year.
Murnen’s art was based on the Chilean miners’ ordeal last year. She will receive two roundtrip tickets so
she and a guest can attend the national reception on June 22.
Two other pieces by BGHS students earned honorable mention, as did one from Four County Career Center in
Archbold, and will be displayed in each of Latta’s offices in Bowling Green, Defiance and Norwalk for
the next year.
Earning honorable mention at the show were Peter Burroughs with a lino cut titled, and Hannah Robinette
with a pastel titled "Ohio Field."
Alan Schweinhagen Jr., from Four County, was honored for his photograph "Diamond in the Rough."
