Miami didn’t know what hit them Sunday afternoon in Anderson Arena.
The RedHawks were cruising, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the game and were leading 17-8 with
12:24 to play in the first half.
That’s when Bowling Green turned loose its bench — Jordon Crawford, Luke Kraus, Danny McElroy, Torian
Oglesby and James Erger — and that changed the complexion of the game.
BG’s five substitutes contributed 33 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, sevens steals, two blocked shots
and only two turnovers and put on a whole lot of defensive pressure as the Falcons rallied for a 62-53
win. Bowling Green is now 7-10 overall and tied for first in the Mid-American Conference East at 2-1.

“The second group we brought into the game … they gave us a huge lift,” said BG head coach Louis Orr.
“They were the difference in the game … They turned things around.
“They got stops … I thought they were super focused,” Orr added. “They guarded, they rebounded … The
chemistry of that group was very good,
After Miami’s Nick Winbush made it 17-8 on a 3-pointer with 12:24 to play in the first half, BG’s 2-3
zone clamped down. Miami was only 1-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-8 on threes, with eight
turnovers over the remainder of the first half.
The defense helped BG turn the nine-point deficit into a 27-20 halftime lead.
“Jordon and I, we take pride on the defensive end. We bring a lot of energy to this team,” Kraus said “We
want to come in there and fight and scrap, do whatever we can to help our team succeed.
“We turned the game around. We got the crowd on our side. It was just a great feeling seeing us diving on
loose balls, taking charges. On offense, we got transition points and we started hitting shots and the
whole game just changed.”
Crawford, a 5-feet-6 sophomore, was the catalyst, running the point, and playing on top of BG’s 2-3 zone
with Kraus.
“I just wanted to win … There were openings on the court and I just tried to make the right decisions
throughout the whole game,” Crawford said. “When I pass it, they have to finish it, so you can’t give
the credit to me (for assists) you have to give it to them. They made all the baskets, I just try to
give them the ball.”

Crawford finished with 10 points, eight assists, five steals, one rebound and only one turnover while
playing 30 minutes.
“He took it to us today,” said Miami head coach Charlie Coles. “He was the best player on the floor …
What happened when this kid got in the game? He changed (the game).”
In the 19-3 run in the final 12 minutes of the first half, Crawford had two baskets and three assists,
including an alley-oop pass to Oglesby for a dunk. Kraus scored eight of his 10 points, McElroy
converted an offensive rebound into a three-point play, and Calhoun also scored on an offensive rebound.
Calhoun’s basket with 5:14 left in the half put BG ahead to stay.
“In terms of playing the position, using his talents, running our team, I thought this was the best game
I’ve seen him play,” Orr said about Crawford.
During the first three minutes of the second half, Miami cut BG’s lead to three points, 29-26, but
Calhoun hit one of BG’s only two 3-pointers in the game to help hold off the RedHawks.
Miami got within five, 48-43, with 7:14 left, but a good pass from Kraus led to a McElroy layup and the
Falcons were able to maintain control the rest of the way.
“This was really a great team win,” Orr said.
The effort against Miami was in sharp contrast to last Tuesday’s 80-63 loss to Kent State.
“This was a very important game. It was a rough game against Kent so we had to bounce back and just come
in here and fight, because we knew it was going to be a dog-fight game,” Crawford said.
The game featured throwback jerseys from the 1960s for the Falcons and drew a crowd of 2,367, the largest
home crowd of the season. The previous best crowd was 1,661 for the season-opener against Ohio
Dominican.
Both Crawford and Kraus said they liked the throwback jerseys and would like to convince Orr to let them
wear them the rest of the season.
“I wish it was like that every game, it felt so good,” Crawford added about the crowd.
NOTES: Miami is now 7-10, 2-1 in the MAC East … Both teams had four players score in double figures …
BG had only nine turnovers in the game … The Falcons had 11 steals and scored 21 points off Miami
turnovers … The Falcons host Ohio Wednesday with tipoff at 7 p.m.
