BG men face Xavier

Bowling Green takes its 1-0 record on the road tonight facing Xavier at 7:30.
The Falcons are coming off a 67-45 win over Division II Wayne State. Scott Thomas led the Falcons with 15
points and Otis Polk added 14 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.
A change from its man-to-man defense to the 2-3 zone helped Bowling Green pull away from Wayne State.
Xavier is coming off of a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2008-09, but lost its head coach and had some
roster turnover. The Musketeers are 1-0 this season after defeating Youngstown State 83-57. Five players
scored in double-figures including Jordan Crawford, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, who led the team with 14 in
his Xavier debut. Crawford played his freshman season (2007-08) at Indiana before transferring to
Xavier.
Xavier was 30-of-37 at the free-throw line against the Penguins. Xavier held Youngstown State to 33
percent shooting and
just 1-of-13 from three-point range.
Xavier’s outside shooting, led by 6-0 sophomore Brad Redford, could cause problems for BG’s zone defense.
Redford made 3-of-6 3-pointers against Youngstown State after leading the Atlantic 10 in 3-point
percentage last season at 46.5 (53-of-114). Redford made only 56 field goals last season.
NOTES: Xavier’s Crawford is the same player shown on video dunking over LeBron James … For Thomas, a
sophomore, it was the first double-figure scoring game of his career against Wayne State … The
BG-Xavier game is scheduled to be televised on Fox Sports Net Ohio, but may not be carried by all
affiliates as it conflicts with the Cleveland Cavaliers-Golden Sate game … Bowling Green leads the
all-time series with Xavier 6-4, but the two teams have not played since Dec. 30, 1988, an 89-75 Xavier
win … Xavier has won 10 straight games on its home court …The Falcons remain on the road playing at
Iowa on Friday with tipoff at 9 p.m.
