Sister act to perform at Way
PERRYSBURG – Sisters violinist Maria Bessmeltseva and pianist Ekaterina Bessmeltseva will perform July 15
at 7 p.m. in Way Library as part of the Way Library Adult Summer Reading Program.
The award-winning Russian musicians will perform classical and popular music.
Natives of St. Petersburg, Russia, the sisters have studied music in the United States for more than five
years.
Born in 1983, Maria Bessmeltseva graduated from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory in 2001. She was
invited to study at Oberlin Conservatory with Gregory Fulkerson and Alla Aranovskaya. After graduating,
she came to Bowling Green State University with an assistantship to play in the Graduate String Quartet.
At BGSU she served as concertmaster of the Bowling Green Philharmonia and studied with Vasile Beluska.
She completed a second master’s degree in chamber music at the University of Michigan and is working on
her doctorate in violin performance at Michigan.
She has won concerto competitions and attended summer musical festivals in Italy, Switzerland, Arkansas
and Vermont and has performed in the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and at Carnegie Hall.
Born in 1986, Ekaterina Bessmeltseva studied at Rachmaninoff Music School and Mussorgsky College of Music
in Russia. She enrolled at BGSU in 2004 with a full scholarship and studied with Maxim Mogilevsky and
Laura Melton. At BGSU she received the C. Elizabeth Cobb Memorial Scholarship and the Lenore B. Coriell
Memorial Piano Award. In May, 2008, she entered the University of South Florida to work on her master’s
in piano performance.
Community band to play at St. Mark’s
The Bowling Green Area Community Band will perform its last concert of the season Saturday at 7 p.m. at
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 315 S. College Drive, as part of the annual tent weekend.
Bank exhibiting PRIZM works
PERRYSBURG – Members of PRIZM are now exhibiting work at the Huntington Bank, 1001 Sandusky Ave.
Included in the exhibit:
¥ Harry Daugherty’s three watercolors from his travels to Ireland and two summer-themed pieces.
¥ Maureen DeRonge’s watercolor "Autumn Harvest" and oil paintings "Fruits of Our
Labor" and "Poolside."
¥ Ramona Mercer’s watercolors " BeeUtiful Sun Flowers," "Ocean Foam" and
"Lourde’s Chapel."
¥ Nancy Stonerock’s watercolor "Roman Holiday 1."
Garden jazz concerts begin tonight
TOLEDO – The Jazz in the Garden series begins tonight at 6:30 in the Toledo Botanical Garden with a show
by Ragtime Rick.
Future concerts at beginning at 6:30 p.m. are:

¥ July 23 Hepcat Revival.
¥ July 30 Urban Jazz Collective and musicians from Toledo School for the Arts.
¥ Aug. 6 Toledo Jazz Orchestra.

¥ Aug. 20 Los Gringos.
Admission is $7, $6 for seniors 60 and over and students, $5 for members of the Toledo Jazz Society and
the Toledo Botanical Garden and children 12 and under free.
Players staging ‘Inspector Hound’
TOLEDO – The Village Players Theatre will open Tom Stoppard’s "The Real Inspector Hound"
tonight at 8 p.m.
The comedy will also be staged Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. continuing July 16, 17
and 18 at 8 p.m.
