Leonora Van Rooijen, of Cygnet, has received the William Day Award from the College of Business at Ohio
University. The award recognizes a student for outstanding academic achievement including multi-cultural
experience and language proficiency. Van Rooijen graduated in June with a double major in history and
business economics. She had a 3.80 grade point average. She studied Latin, Chinese and German (she spent
the summer of her sophomore year studying at Leipzig University in Germany). She is a member of Beta
Gamma Sigma, Golden Key international honor society, International Business Society, and Chinese Student
Language Association. Van Rooijen also was awarded the Edwin L. and Ruth Kennedy Distinguished Professor
Scholarship.
Caroline Cota, Bowling Green, graduated summa cum laude with University Honors from Bowling Green State
University in May, with a bachelor of science in psychology. She composed her honors thesis on ?The
Relationship Between Acceptance and Mindfulness, and Fear of Death? and was awarded one of the two
prizes for top year-long research project in the department of psychology. Inducted into BGSU?s chapter
of Phi Beta Kappa as a junior, she was also tapped for membership in Mortar Board honorary, serving
during her senior year as its service chairperson. Cota is now employed as a psychiatric rehabilitation
worker in the Lewistown and Huntingdon offices of Community Services Group of Pennsylvania, and will
make her home in State College.
Andrew Lewallen, of Wayne, has received a $1,000 Dudley & Janet Dauterman Award from the Gleaner
Life Insurance Society Scholarship Foundation. A 2009 Elmwood High School graduate, he will attend the
University of Toledo to major in mechanical engineering. He?s the son of Ted and Tricia Lewallen.
Hannah Phillips and Alicia Schnipke have been inducted into the Psi Beta national honor society. Psi Beta
is for psychology students attending community and junior colleges. Phillips, of Custar, is undecided on
her major. Schnipke, of Walbridge, is studying radiography.
