To the Editor: Otsego Food Pantry thanks scouts

We just finished putting away the food received from this year’s Scouting For Food Drive. The scouts
brought in just over 3,800 items – our biggest total ever! The food collected came from the Haskins,
Tontogany area, Weston and the Grand Rapids areas. We wish to thank all those who put items out for the
collection – there wouldn’t be a drive without your generosity – and the wonderful scouts, their leaders
and their parents who do the work to see that the bags are distributed a week prior to the event and
picked up on the collection day. Thanks to Lisa Hatfield and everyone who received the bags and
separated the items into groups to make putting away the food so much easier.
And thanks to my crew for getting all the food into the pantry – especially Noah Batke who donated his
time as part of a class assignment. Noah spent several hours inside the pantry lifting the heavy boxes
of food saving this older gal a lot of work. Very much appreciated!
It never ceases to amaze me how generous our area residents are, and even though we are in the midst of a
difficult economic situation, they give and give to help those less fortunate. Many area families will
benefit from your caring. I am so proud of all of you! Have a wonderful Fall.
