To the Editor: Commissioners were doing their job, reader says

In regard to the letter to the Sentinel-Tribune that questioned the Wood County commissioners’ ability to
protect its citizens, it was stated "Higher taxes, zoo accountability and other statements at the
public hearing were made without fact and meant to confuse and misrepresent the issue." The basis
for that statement is a mystery.
The commissioners’ job entails a multitude of calls, conferences, meetings, etc., to get information to
make the correct decisions, as do our auditor, treasurer, sheriff and other officials to fulfill their
necessary duties while budgeting the available money without trampling on anyone.
Whether it’s a zoo levy or any other election, they are expensive. A public meeting was held to determine
the general sentiments from voters so as to justify, or not, further action on the zoo issue.
Should Wood County bypass the Lucas County commissioners so Lucas voters can support the Wood County
Fair, the National Tractor Pull, or other activities?
Wood and Lucas do cooperate with each other on various businesses, port authority, water and sewer issues
and this is not un-American. The history of Wood and Lucas working together is not in question, nor is
isolation.
If some still want a vote on the zoo issue, then they are free to get up a petition to get enough
signatures to force a vote.
