CLEVELAND — Bowling Green women’s basketball team is picked to win the Mid-American Conference East title
and conference championship tournament in the league’s preseason poll.
Additionally, juniors Lauren Prochaska and Tracy Pontius were selected to the preseason All-MAC team.
Prochaska was the 2009 MAC player of the year, while Pontius joined her on the first team. The Falcons
were 29-5 overall and 15-1 in the MAC last season. BG lost to Ball State in the MAC championship game,
but did advance to the WNIT where the Falcons defeated Syracuse.
“We’re excited about the upcoming year,” BG head coach Curt Miller said during the MAC teleconference
Wednesday. “I believe our team has a nice balance this year of veteran leaders and upperclassmen and
youthful freshmen joining the program.
“We understand that the bull’s-eye remains on our back,” Miller continued. “We head into the year,
without question, with one of the toughest non-conference schedules in school history, not including
what will happen in the preseason WNIT tournament. We already have five road games in the non-conference
against teams that went to national post-season play last year. It’s conceivable that we could play two
more road games in the WNIT against teams that were national post-season teams last year.”
Bowling Green received 22 of 36 votes to win the MAC East followed by Kent State (12), Miami (2), Akron,
Ohio and Buffalo.
Toledo was picked to win the West, followed by Ball State (14), Northern Illinois (4), Central Michigan,
Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.
Bowling Green received 16 of a possible 36 votes to win the MAC tournament.
Fans get their first chance to see the Falcons in action on Nov. 4, against Findlay in an exhibition game
at Anderson Arena starting at 7 p.m.
The regular season opens with a home game vs. Chicago State on Nov. 13, in the first round of the
Preseason WNIT, with tipoff at 7:30 p.m. — CARLE
