Perrysburg boys lacrosse has taken its bumps and bruises from Northeast Ohio’s finest, but the Yellow Jackets got on track Thursday by routing Bowling Green, 16-1, at Bobcat Stadium.

That win, combined with a 12-7 win at Sylvania Southview Tuesday, keeps Perrysburg on course to chase down its fourth straight Northern Lakes League championship.

Perrysburg evens its overall record at 3-3, but improves to 3-0 in the NLL, while BG falls to 3-7 and 1-3.

Perrysburg coach Baily Weatherwax hopes the combination of games against teams like Avon and Medina, which beat the Jackets 9-7 and 10-3, can help his team get better prepared for the postseason tournament, where the Jackets will have to contend with out of district opponents from the get-go.

“It’s nice to play the out-of-conference games to help us prepare for our NLL games,” Weatherwax said. “I mean, the goal remains the same for us. We need to make a (deep) playoff (tournament) berth and that’s what we are all striving for.”

Perrysburg junior attack Zachary Schroeder, who scored a three-goal hat trick in the win over BG, knows how demanding it can be to play the best teams from around the state, but says it pays off when they get the NLL wins.

“It feels great to get a win after those hard fought games, losing them, but it’s great to keep going,” Schroeder said. “Hopefully, we’ll keep winning throughout the NLL and get far in the playoffs.”

Schroeder was one of 12 Perrysburg players to get into the scoring column in the win over BG.

Freshman attack Liam Thompson topped Schroeder, not only getting a hat trick by scoring three goals, but Thompson dished out four assists.

Perrysburg freshman attack Mitchell McKay had two goals and an assist and sophomore attack Jonathan Butterfield, junior attack Evan Ludwig, and freshman attack Mitchell McKay provided one goal and one assist apiece.

Scoring one goal apiece were junior midfielders Grandin LeBoutillier and Jack Hammond, senior midfielder Alexander Birch, freshman attack Brody Macke, junior defenseman Braden Slawinski, and sophomore attack Seth Haney. Sophomore attack Oliver Eck dished out a pair of assists.

Weatherwax said it is a blessing to the program getting that many players in the scoring column, plus getting several junior varsity players into a varsity game.

“It feels good,” Weatherwax said. “We need some more games where we can take control and get some of the younger guys in. Any deep playoff berth, you need a deep roster to go with it, so that is what we are working on.”

Perrysburg’s dominance was so strong that Birch, the face-off specialist, won 6-of-7 draws in the second half, with BG senior Paul Archer beating him once. BG’s only goal was scored by junior attack Elliot Baber in the first half.

Schroeder believes his team is coming together midway through the season.

“We definitely grew as a team, definitely we’re a lot younger so we work better as a team, and we’ll keep getting better teamwork as we go throughout the season,” Schroeder said.

In the Jackets’ win Tuesday, Thompson had four goals and an assist, Schroeder scored three goals, and LeBoutillier had two goals and an assist.

Haney, Butterfield, and senior attack Caden Yarnell scored one goal apiece and McKay dished out two assists.

Haney and junior defenseman Braden Slawinski led the Jackets defensively with three ground balls each, Birch won 14-of-18 faceoffs, and junior goalie Nathan Ettore had 11 saves.
