Rutherford hired to coach soccer at Owens

PERRYSBURG — Former Eastwood and Lake girls soccer coach Megan Rutherford has been hired to coach womens soccer at Owens Community College.

Most recently, Rutherford was at Lake High School for one season in 2023. During her time at Lake, the team won the “Juergen Mudrow Cup” NWOSOA Team Excellence and Sportsmanship Award for all high school girls divisions in 2024 and finished their season in the sectional final with an overall record of 5-7-5.

She is currently a coach at GTFC Impact and is a head coach of a GU19 GLA-NPL team for the 2024 season and has assisted ECNL-RL/Elite 64 teams aging from U13-U19 beginning in 2022.

Rutherford was the girls coach at Eastwood for 11 seasons from 2011-22 with an overall record of 152-45-16. The team reached the Division II district championship in 2014 and reached the D-III district championship in 2016.

Her team won sectional championships in 2013, 2014 (D-II), 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 (D-III). In 2018 and 2019 the team was the Northern Buckeye Conference Champions and was regional semifinalists. In 2020 and 2021, the team was NBC champions and regional runners-up.

Other notable team awards under Coach Rutherford include the Team Ethics Award of Merit – Gold Certificate in 2020, the NWO District Team Sportsmanship Award by the NWOSSCA for D-III girls in 2020, and the “Juergen Mudrow Cup” NWOSOA Team Excellence and Sportsmanship Award for all high school girls divisions in 2021.

Coach Rutherford was awarded NWO District D-III Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and 2019, was awarded the Ohio D-III Coach of the Year in 2019, and the United Soccer Coaches Ohio High School Coach of the Year Small School Division in 2019.

Prior to that, Rutherford was a member of the women’s soccer team at the University of Findlay for four years. She resides in Haskins with her husband Craig and their two sons, Bryce and Caden.
