PORTAGE — Chartered in 1977 to live by the code of “WE SERVE,” the Portage Lions Club recently celebrated its charter anniversary by inducting a new member, Melissa Amos-James, sponsored by her sister Heather Amos. The induction was completed by District Governor Deb Crawford.

Lionism is kindness in action. When caring people come together, roll up their sleeves and take action to make their community and the world better, it’s a beautiful thing and an incredible feeling for everyone invoived.

Projects by the Portage Lions include support for Enright Park, edit and publishvillage newsletter The Nitty Gritty, organize and sponsor 4th of July parade, adopt-a-highway, purchase eyeglasses for needy, offer vision screenings for area pre-schools, collect used eyeglasses for re-distribution by Lions International, and sponsor Lions peace poster contest at Bowling Green Middle School.
