Perrysburg’s Madigan fifth, Sanders ninth at state swim

CANTON — Perrysburg sophomore Trevor Madigan, a district champion, finished fifth at state in the boys Division I one-meter diving, scoring 543.35, at C.T. Branin Natatorium last Tuesday.

The top four were New Albany senior Hamish Patel (658.35), Solon senior Dominic Roberto (627.05), Westerville South freshman Andrew Keir (575.35) and Solon sophomore Mitch Caldwell (547.75).

Perrysburg junior Natalie Sanders placed ninth in the girls 200 freestyle with a preliminary time of 1:53.94 and finals time of 1:53.26.

In the 100 freestyle, Sanders was 15th with a time of 52.67 in the prelims and 52.83 in the finals.

In the girls 100 butterfly, Perrysburg freshman Paige Burkey finished 21st with a time of 58.22 in the prelims and she was 24th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.75 in the prelims.

Perrysburg senior Ewan Fisher finished 33rd in the boys 200 freestyle with a preliminary time of 1:47.34 and in the 500 freestyle he was 31st, finishing in 4:58.26.

Findlay junior Claire Kemmere, a Bowling Green Swim Club member in the offseason, placed 11rh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.11 in the preliminaries and 5:08.94 in the finals.

In the 200 freestyle, Kemmere placed 13th with a time of 1:54 in the preliminaries and 1:54.39 in the finals.

Anthony Wayne junior Kate Hildebrand, another BGSC member, finished 33rd in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.2 in the prelims and she was 25th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.07.

Upper Arlington won the girls D-I state title with 313 points while Perrysburg scored 11 points, good for 36th place. Cincinnati St. Xavier won the boys title with 302 points and Perrysburg was 27th with 15 points.

Most of the finals events for D-I and D-II were held on Friday and Saturday at Branin Natatorium.

Division II

Maumee Valley senior Tyler Foster, a Rossford resident, finished 10th in the D-II 100 backstroke with a time of 52.4 in the prelims and 53.44 in the finals.

Foster was 15th in the 200 freestyle, finishing in a time of 1:46.1 in the prelims and 1:46.98 in the finals.

In the 200 individual medley, Eastwood junior Eric Sander was 11th with a time of 2:00.17 in the prelims and 2:00.11 in the finals. Sander did not reach the finals in the 100 backstroke. Eastwood’s A.J. O’Brien qualified for state in the 500 freestyle, but also did not reach the finals.

Bowling Green senior Alex Xu was an at-latge state qualifier in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, but did not reach the finals.

Van Buren senior Abby Leatherman, a BGSC swimmer, qualified for state in the 100 breakstroke but did reach the finals.

Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown won the girls D-Ii championship and Hunting Valley University school won the boys with 234 points, but Maumee Valley had nine points for 49th place and Eastwood had six points for 55th place in the boys meet.
