PERRYSBURG — Seventeen members of the Perrysburg Fire Division have completed the Blue Card Command Certification course. The three-day training was held Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the Perrysburg Fire Division Headquarters.

The Blue Card training program provides fire departments with a training and certification system that defines the best standard command practices for local, everyday emergency operations.

“Blue Card is a system that we utilize to systematically organize an emergency scene and is effective in coordinating and maintaining accountability of our members working in and around hazardous conditions” said Perrysburg Fire Chief William McCullough.

The Blue Card Command program includes 50 hours of online training and 24 hours of in-person training. The program is designed to first instruct, train and then evaluate and certify those who serve in the role of incident commander through the use of realistic simulations.

“This training produces incident commanders who make better decisions that result in safer operations for our firefighters and the public,” said McCullough.

All remaining members of the Perrysburg Fire Division are in the process of completing their online training and will become certified this year.

In addition to the 17 members of PFD, four members of the Bowling Green Fire Division were also trained and certified in this program.
