Charles Robert Nietz, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

He was born on May 15, 1936, in Bowling Green, Ohio to the late Leslie William & Mary E. (Baumgardner) Nietz. Charles married Phyllis J. Eckert on April 16, 1955, at the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church near Wayne.

Surviving Charlie is his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis; daughter, Teresa (Mark) Morgan of Liberty Center; son, Ron (Tammy) Nietz of Oregon; brother, Rex (Helen) Nietz of Wayne; grandchildren, Brad, Brian, Melodee, Harmonee, Aria; great-grandchildren, Connor, Sam, Brooklyn; and his furry companion black lab, Daisy Mae.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie & Mary; son, Daniel; and granddaughter, Maresa.

Charlie was a 1954 graduate of Montgomery Local, and then worked many years in Management of Grain Elevators and Retail. He was a member of Mt. Zion UB Church, was an avid Ohio State Buckeye’s Fan, and enjoyed his time as a 4-H Advisor.

Charlie also had a passion for music and playing in bands. He played the trombone in the National FFA Band in Kansas City, Missouri, the Ohio State Fair Band, and always enjoyed traveling with the bands. Hunting and fishing also played a big part in his life, as he was a member of the NRA, was FFL Certified, and spent many years running his very own Chuck’s Tackle & Gun Shop.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Freeport Banquet Hall (3700 Girton Road, Wayne, Ohio 43466) with Pastor Ron Merritt officiating, with a bereavement dinner and fellowship to follow.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio.
