Four men were arrested for assault after they allegedly threw rocks and bottles in a downtown bar.

On Friday at 1 a.m., Bowling Green police were dispatched to a bar in the 200 block of North Main Street on a report of a group of men throwing bottles and rocks and dumping drinks on people.

The suspects had just left the area when the officers arrived, and bar staff provided a description.

A man who appeared to match the description was stopped in City Lot 2 and was later identified as D’On Stinson, 24, Findlay.

Officers reportedly ordered him to put his hands behind his back multiple times. He yelled profanities, seemingly to play up for the crowd that had gathered to film and yell at officers, according to the report.

Bouncers positively identified him as one of the men involved.

Stinson told police he was at the bar but was attempting to diffuse the situation.

Downtown cameras facing the bar entrance corroborated a customer’s report that Stinson had punched him in the face.

Stinson was taken to jail and charged with assault, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

An officer on East Wooster at Main Street saw a man later identified as Garret Clark, 21, Brunswick, run around a corner in an attempt to evade and hide.

While Clark and Stinson were being taken into custody, several other people reportedly arrived at the scene and began causing problems. They were identified as Devon Holbert, David Holbert and a third man. They continued to argue and refused to leave the area, according to the report.

Devon Holbert, 21, Painesville; David Holbert, 25, Mentor; and Clark were arrested for assault after being identified by bar staff and were taken to jail.

A review of downtown cameras showed the five men leave the ar and then cause a disturbance outside. At one point, Devon Holbert can be seen throwing something into the bar. He then walks up to someone in line, takes the man’s hat off and throws it.

Stinson also can be seen walking back to the doors and punching someone in line. The five can been seen moving away from the bar then come right back to the doors causing more disturbances.

When officers showed up, the men took off running onto East Wooster Street then City Lot 2. Devon Holbert, David Holbert and the third man entered a vehicle and sat while Stinson and Clark entered the lot and were stopped by police.

The three pulled out of the parking space and began driving toward East Wooster but then pulled into a different spot, exited the vehicle and started causing problems with officers.

The fifth man was not charged.

The parking lot near the entrance to the bar was the site of a shooting on Oct. 2, 2021. At that time, police used video surveillance provided by the bar.

The city has since installed additional cameras in the area.
