Pickup driver seriously injured in US 24 crash

MAUMEE – The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred Tuesday at 2:10 p.m. on U.S. 24 near the Anthony Wayne Trail underpass in Monclova Township.

The preliminary investigation showed a Chevrolet pick-up truck, operated by Randall John Renshler, 25, Toledo, was driving eastbound and changed lanes, striking a Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer combination, operated by Derrick R. Paul, 50, Waco, Georgia.

Renshler then lost control of his vehicle, drove off the left side of the roadway, and overturned before coming to rest in the westbound lanes.

After the crash, the Freightliner pulled onto the shoulder and stopped. Renshler was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by first responders.

Renshler sustained serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. and Paul was not injured.

The westbound lanes of U.S. 24 were closed for nearly 2 hours.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Waterville Township Police Department, Mercy Health Life Flight, Ankenbrandts Towing and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
