PERRYSBURG — The Knights of Columbus, Council 14502 of St John XXIII in Perrysburg, is hosting its 11th Annual charity golf outing on July 29 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at Riverby Hills Golf Course.

Proceeds raised from this year’s outing will support the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities recreation programs.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $75 per golfer or $300 per team. The event also includes skill challenges, raffles, food, and other fundraising activities.

“We expect over 130 participants at the outing and our goal is to raise over $20,000,” said organizer Daryl Brunswick. “Also, anything we can drop in the ‘goodie bags’ is welcome. We can only meet our goal with support from organizations like yours.”

Email, call or text Brunswick at [email protected] or 419-266-2928 if interested in signing up, need more information, or would like to be a sponsor of this event.

Past years’ golf fundraisers supported the Wood County Plays Inclusive Playground (2022) and the playground and basketball goal at The Cocoon facility (2021). Cocoon provides safety, housing, healing and justice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children.

In 2020, the organization raised funds for an inclusive playground built in Fort Meigs Park in Perrysburg. In 2019, funds were raised for an ultrasound machine currently in use at the Bowling Green Pregnancy Center.

Golfing for the Carson Ramey Foundation

OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. — The Carson Ramey Foundation will hold an 18-hole four-person golf scramble fundraiser at Whiteford Valley Golf Course, 7980 Beck Rd., Ottawa Lake, Mich. on Aug. 12.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and lunch and raffles are at 2 p.m. Visit CarsonRamseyFoundation.org/2023-golf-outing to register.

The Carson Ramey Foundation was created in memory of Josh and Jackie Ramey’s son, Carson. He was diagnosed with hypoplastic right heart and pulmonary atresia during his 21-week prenatal scan.

Carson was born on August 10, 2020 and battled his congenital heart defect (CHD) for his short three months of life while undergoing three open heart surgeries, three times on life support, and multiple other surgeries and procedures. Sadly, due to complications from his heart defect he passed away on November 20, 2020.

During their time at the hospital, they used the weighted frog positioners to help provide him comfort. While they mostly used it to comfort Carson, the positioners are also helpful for supporting babies in different positions which can help with development.

His parents saw how much this helped him and wanted to ensure every child in the PCTU at Mott Children’s Hospital had one available to them. Their hope is that they can keep his memory alive while providing comfort to other heart patients at Mott’s as well as possibly other hospitals in the future.

Before his diagnoses his parents were not aware of how common heart defects are and the amount of research that needs to be done. One in every 100 babies will be born with CHD making it the most common birth defect.

After watching him fight his battle his parents knew they needed to bring more awareness to CHDs and do something to help other families going through what they did. The Carson Ramey Foundation was created in March 2022.
