Ohio man arrested again — this time on weapons charges

An Ohio man has had his bond revoked after he was reportedly stopped with a firearm in his vehicle.

On Saturday at around 11 p.m., Bowling Green police initiated a traffic stop in the 2100 block of East Wooster Street due to the vehicle’s registration being expired.

Darnell Johnson, 21, Canal Winchester, was identified as the operator and a probable cause search was conducted due to the odor of marijuana.

A Glock magazine with one 9mm round was found in the center console. A Glock gun case with a loaded 9mm handgun was found in an unsecure case on the floor behind the front passenger seat.

Because Johnson failed to tell the officer there was a gun in the car, he was placed in handcuffs.

A no-contact order stating Johnson shall not possess, use or carry any deadly weapons was shared with the officer.

He reportedly told the officer he had paperwork for the firearm and when previously asked if there was a weapon in the vehicle, he responded he didn’t know.

Johnson was arrested for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon, both felonies; and driving under suspension.

He was taken to jail, where he remained Monday afternoon.

This was not the first encounter BGPD has had with Johnson.

He was arrested Oct. 15 after a probable cause search during a traffic stop turned up a firearm that had been reported stolen in Columbus. He was taken to jail on a charge of receiving stolen property.

He was arrested again Jan. 10 for domestic violence and was taken to jail.

Johnson was arrested March 16 for violation of a protection order and possession of marijuana and was taken to jail.

Earlier this month, he was the victim of an alleged stabbing and was arrested for obstructing official business after eluding police after the alleged incident. He again was taken to jail.
