Celebrating local seniors: Monday event planned

The Wood County Committee on Aging will celebrate Older Americans month by highlighting an older adult from each of the eight senior centers showcasing many positive aspects of aging.

WCCOA will honor these older adults at our concert on Monday from 4-5 p.m. at the Wooster Green Gazebo, 100 S. Church St. (rain location the Wood County Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St.).

The concert will feature the band Bliss, a quintet of women who have stepped outside the box in the Northwest Ohio Music scene.

This free concert is open to the community and is sponsored by St. Clare Commons.

Show Me the Movie Contemporary Film Series at Way

PERRYSBURG — Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave., will show “Armageddon Time” on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

This coming-of-age story is inspired by screenwriter/director John Gray’s childhood in Queens in the 1980s. He’s heard the stories of his grandparents fleeing the antisemitism of 1920s Ukraine. Now at age 11 he is pulled out of public school, enrolled in a prestigious private school, and learns of his family’s own biases against Black people.

This film is rated R and has a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes. Admission is free.

Ribbon cutting for Eden Rose Inspirations

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting for Eden Rose Inspirations in at 328 S. Main St. on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The event will welcome owner Heather Borsos to the Bowling Green business community. An open house will follow until 8 p.m.

Borsos has been in business since August 2020 offering luxury and everyday floral designs. Eden Rose Inspirations is a full-service florist for weddings, funerals and events.

Kiwanis hear Medal of Honor program

The Bowling Green Kiwanis will meet Thursday at the Wood County Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting starts at noon and lunch is available starting at 11:30 a.m.

John Shertzer, executive director of Medal of Honor Foundation, is the speaker. The foundation supports recipients of the nation’s highest military recognition and their outreach. He previously served as the Executive Director of the Society of Professional Journalists, a national free-press advocacy organization headquartered in Indianapolis. Prior to that, he worked for Leadership Indianapolis and helped establish the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council.

Shertzer graduated from Miami University with a degree in Communications. He also holds a master’s degree in higher education from Iowa State University. He is a graduate of Bowling Green High School where he served as FFA president.

Read All Together Now with summer reading program

Read All Together Now this summer with the Wood County District Public Library.

Families with children and teens ages preschool through young adult can join in WCDPL’s summer reading program. The kick-off celebration will be June 1 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the library, 251 N. Main St.

Register and collect registration prizes, then play games, make crafts, complete an obstacle course, and enjoy scenes from Horizon Youth Theatre’s upcoming production of “Shakesplosion” at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the atrium.

Create a wall hanging from a T-shirt at Way library class

PERRYSBURG — On June 5 from 6:30-8 pm, Way Public Library will host an adult craft class. Participants will learn how to make T-shirt yarn and create a wall hanging using the yarn they created, cardboard, and string.

Participants who would like a specific color for the wall hanging should bring an old shirt in that color. All other supplies will be provided. There will be extra T-shirts to use. The $10 fee for this program can be paid when registering at the information desk.

Pfaffenberger presents Cruising the Mediterranean

PERRYSBURG — Way Public Library welcomes Judy Pfaffenberger for a virtual trip featuring her cruise on the Mediterranean on June 5 at 2 p.m.

Join Pfaffenberger on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, visiting Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, Malta, the Isle of Capri, Albania and Corfu. She will also share tips on how to save money and get more out of your cruise.

Maria from ‘Sesame Street’ will do book talk in BG this fall

Join the Wood County District Public Library in the next WCDPL Foundation series event with bestselling author Sonia Manzano.

Manzano will be visiting Bowling Green on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, 540 W. Poe Road.

For over 40 years, Manzano inspired, educated, and delighted children and families as “Maria” on Sesame Street. Named one of the 25 Greatest Latino Role Models, Manzano has contributed to enriching diversity on television, on the stage, and in the educational realm. As a first-generation Puerto Rican born on the mainland, her tale is one of perseverance and courage as she overcame countless obstacles to become one the of the most influential Latinas on television.
