LIME CITY — The Perrysburg Township bicentennial celebration is set for Saturday at the Spafford House Museum.

The festival will include several special events:

• Township trustees will hold a meeting outside in the tent.

• Judge Spafford, played by Judge Aram Ohanion and Sheriff Webb, played by Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn, will be available outside the jail cell area from 1-2 p.m. The cell door is to be an original township jail cell door.

• Historian Douglas Brinkley, Ph.D., is speaking at 2 p.m. on the history of Perrysburg Township, followed by a book signing. Brinkley went to Perrysburg High School and regularly appears on network television as a history commentator. His many books on American history regularly hit he bestseller lists.

• Township police photos from 5-6 p.m.

• Children’s bouncy house and tours of the Spafford House Museum will each be available all day. Also showing will be a working blacksmith, Native American trading post, basket weavers, wool spinners and steam threshers.

Food vending will be available through “off the Rails.”

A free shuttle service is being provided by the Perrysburg Auto Mall and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

The Spafford House Museum is at 27340 W. River Road and festivities will take place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m on Saturday.

The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments also sent a letter of congratulations recognizing the township’s bicentennial.

At last week’s meeting, Trustee Bob Mack suggested that it, along with the commemorative magazine, each be entered in the official township historical record. Trustees agreed unanimously.

The Perrysburg Township Bicentennial Commemorative Magazine is available through the township offices and at the festival, at a cost of two bits, or 25 cents. The 32 page magazine is highly recommended by the trustees, as it is packed with research from local historians Gary Franks, librarian Richard Baranowski and Spafford House Museum President Judy Justus.
