BG scholarship established in memory of volleyball player

The school board on April 25 established the Lauren “Flex” Rex Memorial Scholarship in memory of the former Bowling Green High School volleyball player.

The scholarship will go to an eligible senior volleyball player who demonstrates high academic achievements, who is an outstanding defensive player and who possesses the characteristics of leadership, good team spirit and working ethics along with compassion and efforts to help others in school and the community.

Rex died April 1 at the age of 32.

According to her obituary, she was an excellent and avid volleyball player. She won three varsity league titles in high school, and continued her passion with club teams, rec leagues, and pickup games with friends and family. Though her specialty was defense, she had a hard spike when called on, and a downright nasty drop serve.

The board at the meeting also continued to accept donations.

Donations for the DECA International Career Development Conference were accepted from Becky Laabs, $50; Nathan and Bethany Ash, $250; Bowling Green Title Ltd., $100; Guarantee Carpet Cleaning LLC, $250; BG’s Frosty Fare, LLC, $100; Nathan M. Downey, DDS, MS Inc., $300; and Newlove Realty, $199.
