Wood County Safety Council hosts open house

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce and Wood County Safety Council have announced an open meeting to those curious about the program. This regularly scheduled monthly meeting will take place June 4 at 7:30 a.m. at the Wood County Hospital meeting rooms near the emergency department.

The guest speaker for the meeting will be renowned safety trainer Brad Hurtig, presenting “Inspire a Safer Workplace.”

Managed by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, the Wood County Safety Council is a non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to improve the quality of businesses in Wood County through safety, health, and environmental enhancements, by providing education and resources to those businesses. Each monthly meeting features a different speaker and workplace safety topic, allowing businesses to learn how to create a safer work environment, reduce injuries, and save money.

Employers enrolled in Workers’ Compensation coverage can earn a 3% rebate on their premiums if a business representative attends 10 of the 12 monthly meetings in a fiscal year, provided they meet all program eligibility requirements. In addition, businesses can earn a 2% performance bonus for reducing frequency or severity of injuries by 10% or by maintaining zero injuries. To qualify for the fiscal year rebate, one must enroll in WC Safety Council by July 31stf the current program year. Annual membership fees for the program are $100 for employers with 1-100 employees, and $150 for employers with 101+ employees. Member meetings generally occur on the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 7:30 a.m.

The June meeting is open to non-members. Every WC Safety Council meeting features speaker with a safety topic, breakfast buffet and drawings for a gift card. The June meeting will also include a gift for everyone who attends and additional opportunities to win gift cards.
