An alleged suspect in Monday’s Bowling Green shooting incident has been found dead.

According to a 1:20 p.m. Bowling Green Police Division social media post, a Special Response Team made entry into a Clough Street apartment “and the alleged suspect in the case was located deceased. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing.”

According to BGPD Lt. Adam Skaff, officers responded to shooting at El Zarape a little after 9 this morning.

The victim was transported to Wood County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Officers believed that the suspect was in an apartment on Clough Street which was later confirmed to be the the Ivywood Apartments.

“We have set up a perimeter around the suspect’s apartment and are waiting for the authority to make entry to determine if he’s inside,” according to a BGPD social media post at 12:40 p.m.

Skaff said officers waited for a search warrant and entry was obtained by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.

The suspect was found deceased, he said.

His cause of death is under investigation, Skaff said at 2:20 p.m.

At 12:19 p.m., the Sentinel-Tribune was told that there is no active shooter and there was no danger to the public.

There were social media posts of an active shooter at El Zarape, 1616 E. Wooster St., late this morning.

A person who answered the phone at El Zarape at 11:25 a.m. said “we’re all safe.” She wouldn’t give her identity or anymore information.

The BGPD posted on its Facebook page at 11:40 a.m. that it responded to a shooting at El Zarape.

“However, there is currently not an active shooter situation,” the post said.

A BGPD spokesperson said around 11 a.m. that reports of an active shooter were a false alarm.

At 11:45 a.m., El Zarape posted on social media that the restaurant will be closed on Monday due to the morning incident. It is expected to reopen on Tuesday.
