Otsego second, BG third at boys meet

TONTOGANY — Van Buren (157) won Otsego’s Tim Downey Invitational boys track meet Friday, followed by Otsego (139½), Bowling Green (113½), Napoleon (108), Lake (99), Toledo Scott (44), Toledo Rogers (23), and Cardinal Stritch (2).

Otsego’s Dakota Keifer won the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11:37 to nip second place Toledo Scott sprinter Daylyn Bone (11:42) by one-twentieth of a second.

In the 200, Bone crossed in 23.11 to avenge the 100 loss to Keifer, who crossed in 23.2, less than one-tenth of a second back.

In the 800, Otsego’s Nathan Strahm won in 2:00.14 to defeat second place VB runner Michael Huffman (2:04.2).

In the 3200, BG runners Aidan Novinsky and Landon Fry placed one-two in 10:16.85 and 10:17.39, but in the 1600, BG runner Erek Kendrick (4:42.93) and Fry (4:43.18) placed second and third to VB runner Hudson Sendelbach (4:39.8).

Lake high jumper Joe Clay won first place by clearing five feet, eight inches, while Napoleon’s Ross Niekamp cleared 5-6 to take second.

Two Otsego pole vaulters, Keifer and Carson Lathrop, swept first and second places by clearing 14 feet and 12-6.

In the 110 hurdles, BG’s Max Nazario finished in 17.92 to place second behind Napoleon’s Garrett Hull (17.44).

Otsego’s 4×100 relay team of Keifer, Tyler Michael, Carson Lathrop, and Andrea Grandmaison was second, finishing in 45.52, less than one second behind Napoleon (44.54).

Lake’s 4×200 relay team of Jace Clark, Connor McClellan, Macen Kos, and Figgy Garcia finished in 3:35.7 to place second behind Napoleon (3:31.75).

Otsego’s 4×800 relay squad of Strahm, Jack Seeger, Joseph Brewster, and Wesley Kellermeier finished second in 8:36.78 to place behind VB (8:35.77).

In the shot put, Otsego’s Zachary Hillyard had a toss of 41-2½ to place second behind VB’s Jackson Gregory (47-6½).

In the discus, both Otsego’s Brayden Moon and Lake’s Joah Herman tossed 120-2½, but Moon took the championship based on a tiebreaker.
