Yellow Jackets boosted by 11-run inning

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg pitchers Maison Gerrard and Maddie Von Sacken combined to pitch a three-hit shutout as the Yellow Jackets defeated Napoleon, 11-0, in a Northern Lakes League softball game Wednesday.

Perrysburg scored all 11 of their runs in the third inning.

Gerrard struck out five, walked one, and allowed three hits through four innings in getting the win. She threw 51 pitches, including 33 strikes, while facing 15 batters.

Von Sacken pitched the fifth and final inning in a game that ended due to the mercy rule, striking out one and now allowing a hit in facing five batters.

The Yellow Jackets needed just eight hits to score 11 runs, taking advantage of four Napoleon errors and four walks.

Jess Miller had a home run and three RBIs for the Yellow Jackets, Ella Leonard doubled, and Gerrard was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Yesenia You had a base hit and two RBIs, and Morgan Hoverman, Hayley Griggs, and Lexie Vailllant had base hits for Perrysburg. Vaillant and Alyssa Bradford had stolen bases.

For Napoleon, Addy Thompson, Faith Rubinstein, and Arianna Kiessling had base hits. Kiessling and Anika McCorkle were hit by pitches, and Erica Meyer had a stolen base.

Kiessling started in the circle, taking the loss, and Jadyn Wilcox pitched in relief for the Wildcats.
