William A. Davies, of Portage, Ohio went to be with our Lord and Savior late in the evening on Saturday, March 18, 2023. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

William, fondly known as Billy, was born on August 10, 1939. He filled his life with new adventures and community service. He was one of those people who never met a ‘stranger’ and his family, friends, and faith truly meant the world to him. He will be incredibly missed.

He was a lifelong farmer and truck driver, but those were not his only ‘jobs.’ He was also an auctioneer, working many years with Keith @ Bradley Real Estate and Auction. Being very involved in the community, he is a past Portage Township Trustee, a past President of the Wood County Beef Producers, past Director of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, served on the NW Water-Sewer District board, and was very active @ Cloverdale United Methodist Church.

Billy was a proud Elmwood FFA Alumni, and the Wood County Fair was always one of his favorite weeks of the year. He volunteered for the Wood Co. Jr. Fair Livestock auction and was involved in many other functions at the fair, including one of his favorites…the Pie Auction. He also was honored to have been named Grand Marshall for the 2019 Jr Fair Parade with his wife, Betty.

Other favorite pastimes of his included spending time with family and friends, making homemade ice cream, ‘calling’ square dances, cruising in his 1965 Chevy Impala SS, Fricker Fridays, and spending winters in Melbourne Beach, Florida with his St. Andrews Village friends. Billy was a lover of life and made fun wherever he went.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty (Houser) Davies; daughter Brenda (Dave) Heinze; son Rick (Karen) Buchman; daughter Lori Davies; and son Shawn (Chellie) Davies; a blessed 7 grandchildren: Jill, Jessica (Brent), Jena (Carlos), Blake (Tony), Kara, Ethan, and Kendall; as well as 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving: Brother Jan Davies, Sabattus, Maine; Faye Schuerman, Pemberville; Marlene (Dale) Evans, Wayne; Helen (Pete) Purvis, Tallahassee, Florida.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William Alfred Davies and Alice Davies Peeler; brother-in-law Robert Schuerman; and sister-in-law Kay Davies.

Family will be receiving visitors at Barndt Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 23rd.

A funeral service will be held at Cloverdale United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 24th.

In remembrance, donations can be made to the Wood County Ag Society/Fair.
