Bowling Green 6-foot-3 sophomore Christian Stoever was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week after making 60 saves in a series sweep of RPI.

He earned his first career assist and made a stop on a penalty shot in Friday’s win, securing BGSU’s 10th win of the season.

This is Stoever’s third career weekly honor and second of this season. This is his fourth career award from the conference, with his most recent being Goaltender of the Month in November.

Stoever held RPI to three goals over two games. On Thursday, he stopped 31-of-32 shots, including 12 in the opening frame.

The following night, he made 29 saves and also earned his first career assist, tallying the secondary on Nathan Burke’s goal.

Stoever has a .917 save percentage on the season, ranking third in the conference. In conference games, he has a .926 save percentage, the best in the CCHA.

He leads the league and ranks fifth in the country with 554 saves. This is the seventh time the Falcons have had a CCHA Player of the Week, with Stoever being the lone Falcon with multiple selections.

He is joined by fellow netminder Zack Rose, as well as classmates Ryan O’Hara and Austen Swankler. Fifth-year forwards Nathan Burke and Taylor Schneider round out the list of honorees.

The Falcons open 2023 with a home conference series against Lake Superior State. Bowling Green hosts the Lakers Friday and Saturday with both games starting at 7:07 p.m. in Slater Family Ice Arena.
