Wood County Health Department conducts inspections

During the first two days on the month, Wood County Health Department inspectors spent their time in Bowling Green and Perrysburg.

The following inspections were done Dec. 1.

Tender Age Day Care, 1249 Ridgewood Drive, Bowling Green, had one non-critical offense, which was incorrect storage of employee food items. It was corrected during inspection.

During a follow-up inspection, Yum Yummy, 10677 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, had four critical and six non-critical violations.

Critical were food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation; food equipment surfaces not cleaned at required frequency; equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean; and temperature-controlled food foods not being cold held at the proper temperature.

Non-critical were working food containers not properly labeled; outer opening not protected; linens used inappropriately; improper use and/or maintenance of wiping cloths; re-use of single-service or single-use articles; and unnecessary or nonfunctional items and/or litter on premises.

Starbucks, 10680 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, had three critical and two non-critical violations.

Critical were employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health; presence of live insects, rodents, and other pests (gnats observed at three compartment sink and front of house floor drain at corner of guest pick up area); and no air gap or approved backflow prevention device on the plumbing system.

Non-critical were irreversible registering temperature indicator not readily accessible for hot water mechanical warewashing operations (repeat); and non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean.

Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers, 1094 S. Main St., Bowling Green, had two non-critical offenses, which were non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat); and employees personal storage improperly located above food storage.

All About The Kids Learning Center LLC, 520 Ordway Ave., Bowling Green, had one critical and one non-critical offense.

Critical was chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration. It was corrected during inspection.

Non-critical was equipment and utensils are not being air dried. It also was corrected during inspection.

Wonderland of Learning LLC, 1235 Ridgewood Drive, Bowling Green, had one critical offense, which was handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing. It was corrected during inspection.

Hershey’s Ice Cream DBA Nedley’s Ice Cream & Coffee Cafe’, 200 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, had five critical and nine non-critical violations.

Critical were person in charge was unable to demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing; employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (repeat); utensils and food-contact surfaces of equipment not sanitized at the required frequency (repeat); equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean (repeat); and refrigerated, ready-to-eat, temperature-controlled food foods not properly date marked (repeat, corrected during inspection)

Non-critical were hot and cold holding equipment thermometer was missing, located incorrectly, or not easily readable; food employee(s) not wearing a hair restraint; food employees wearing jewelry on arms or hands during food preparation; improper use and/or maintenance of wiping cloths (repeat); in-use utensils improperly stored (repeat); equipment not approved by a recognized testing agency (repeat); non-food contact surfaces not easily cleanable; non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat); and food service operation did not have a person in charge per shift with the person in charge certification in food protection.

Burger King, 1181 S. Main St., Bowling Green, had one non-critical offense, which was non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean.

Taco Bell, 1130 S. Main St., Bowling Green, had one non-critical offense, which was non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat).

Toledo Oil LTD, 1240 W. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had one critical and two non-critical offenses.

Critical was refrigerated, ready-to-eat, temperature-controlled food foods not properly date marked. It was corrected during inspection.

Non-critical were non-food contact surfaces not easily cleanable (repeat); and non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat).

Call of The Canyon Café, 109 N. Main St., Bowling Green, had two critical and one non-critical offense.

Critical were chlorine sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature and/or concentration; and temperature-controlled food foods not being hot held at the proper temperature. Both were corrected during inspection.

Non-critical were physical facilities not maintained in good repair.

During a complaint inspection, Starbucks Coffee, 26465 N. Dixie Hwy., Perrysburg, had one critical offense, which was presence of live insects, rodents, and other pests (repeat). Pests were observed in display pastry case.

The health department had been notified Nov. 14 that there were flying insects in the pastry display case. The inspection conducted Dec. 1 found that pests were still active in the facility.

The person in charge was told the pest control company must increase visits until the problem is resolved.

The following inspections were done Dec. 2.

Pilot Travel Center, 26415 Warns Road, Perrysburg, had one non-critical offense, which was facility does not have an employee with manager certification in food protection (repeat).

During a follow-up inspection, Bowling Green Hospitality Group Inc., 2150 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had one critical and four non-critical offenses.

Critical was temperature-controlled food foods not being hot held at the proper temperature (repeat). It was corrected during inspection.

Non-critical were facility does not have an employee with manager certification in food protection; facility shall have at least one employee with manager certification in food protection to ensure food safety knowledge and training; food employee(s) not wearing a hair restraint; and raw fruit and/or vegetables not washed or washed improperly (repeat).

During a complaint inspection, Love’s Travel Stop, 26530 Baker Road, Perrysburg, had two critical and one non-critical offense.

A complainant on Dec. 1 stated that there was mold in both ice machines, employees were working sick, and the soda nozzles are not sanitized at the required frequency. The inspector was not able to verify the complaint.

Critical were refrigerated, ready-to-eat, temperature-controlled food foods not properly date marked (repeat, corrected during inspection); and improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (repeat).

Non-critical was the presence of dead pests or insects (multiple sticky traps were observed throughout the Arby’s facility that were observed with multiple flies on them; all dead insects must be removed from the facility to prevent contamination).

Denny’s Flying J, 26415 Warns Road, Perrysburg, had four non-critical offenses, which were equipment and utensils are not being air dried; non-food contact surfaces not easily cleanable; non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean; and facility not maintained clean (repeat).

Taco Bell, 320 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had one non-critical offense, which was equipment and utensils are not being air dried (repeat).

Kabob It, 132 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had one critical and one non-critical offense.

Critical was refrigerated, ready-to-eat, temperature-controlled food foods not properly date marked. It was corrected during inspection.

Non-critical was non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat).

Arby’s, 1024 N. Main St., Bowling Green, had one critical and four non-critical offenses.

Critical was temperature-controlled food foods not being cold held at the proper temperature.

Non-critical were inadequate equipment available for cooling, heating or holding food; food employee(s) not wearing a hair restraint; non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean (repeat); and facility not maintained clean (repeat).

Tim Hortons, 1508 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had one critical and five non-critical violations.

Critical was temperature-controlled food foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (repeat).

Non-critical were facility does not have an employee with manager certification in food protection specific to this location (repeat); no written procedures for time as a public health control (repeat); inadequate equipment available for cooling, heating or holding food; non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean; and facility not maintained clean (repeat).

Zero violations were found at Toth Elementary, 200 E. Seventh St., Perrysburg; Taco Bell, 25782 N. Dixie Hwy., Perrysburg; Black Swamp Curling Center, 19901 N. Dixie Hwy., Bowling Green; Sleek Academy LLC, 519 Ordway Ave., Bowling Green; Nothing Bundt Cakes, 10630 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg; McDonald’s Corporation, 10163 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg; and St. Aloysius School, 148 S. Enterprise Ave., Bowling Green.
