Bowling Green State University senior Nathan Burke was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Forward of the Week after scoring four points in the series last week against Ferris State.

Burke had two goals and an assist in Friday’s 6-0 victory, then scored a goal for the Falcons on Saturday.

On Friday, Burke started the scoring for the Falcons with a sensational breakaway goal, faking a wrist shot before turning in a backhanded shot for the goal. This proved to be the game-winning goal, Burke’s first of the year.

In the second period, he scored during a 4-on-4 session, marking his first multi-goal game of the year. He also earned an assist, intercepting a Ferris State pass and finding Alex Barber for the fifth goal of the game.

The following night, Burke scored the lone goal for the Falcons, redirecting a shot while BGSU had the extra attacker. He finished the weekend with a plus/minus of plus-3.

Burke has five goals and two assists on the season, with all of his goals and one of his assists coming in the last five games.

He has 21 goals and nine assists for 30 points in his BGSU career, which has spanned 51 games. He’s played 135 games in collegiate career, recording 33 goals and 24 assists and 57 points.

This is the first CCHA weekly honor of Burke’s career. This marks the third consecutive week the Falcons have had a player earn an award from the CCHA, with Ryan O’Hara winning Forward of the Week last week, and Christian Stoever taking Goaltender of the Week two weeks ago.

Austen Swankler and Zack Rose have also been selected as players of the week, giving Bowling Green five total winners this season. Last season, the Falcons had seven total players of the week.

Bowling Green has a weekend off before returning to CCHA action. The Falcons head to Lake Superior State for a Dec. 2-3 series. Friday’s game begins at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday’s starts at 6:07 p.m. Both games will be played at Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
