Bobcat hockey splits two

Bowling Green High School hockey split two non-league games Sunday and Monday, downing Northern Kentucky, 6-1 on Sunday, and losing to Bullis Prep (Maryland), 4-2 on Monday.

BG, which hosted both games at Bowling Green State University’s Slater Family Ice Arena, improves to 2-1.

Against Northern Kentucky, a club team that plays in a high school league with Cincinnati schools, both teams scored one goal apiece in the first period, but BG added three in the second and two in the third.

Rhett Winger scored first on a power play, assisted by Ethan Helvoigt.

In the second, Helvoigt, Cooper Feehan and Caden Wisniewski scored for the Bobcats with two assists from Tanner Amos and one apiece from Wisniewski, Drake Joseph, and Easton Schick.

In the third, Schick and Braden Loomis scored, Camden McIntosh had two assists and Winger and Wisniewski had one apiece.

In the loss to Bullis, Wisniewski scored on an assist from Winger to tie the score at 1-1 with 7:17 remaining in the second period, but Bullis scored three goals in the third period.

“We worked really hard,” BG coach Connor Rogowski said. “They just outworked us tonight. Tie game with three (minutes) to go and couldn’t pull it out.”

Winger had a second goal in the third, assisted by Helvoigt and Amos.
